Nikolina Konstantinova Dobreva (born on January 9, 1989), Is professionally known as Nina Dobrev, a Bulgarian-Canadian actress from Sofia, Bulgaria. She is best known for her role in the “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” She also gained widespread recognition for her outstanding portrayal of Katherine Pierce and Elena Gilbert in the popular TV series, “The Vampire Diaries.”

Early Life

Nina Dobrev was born into the family of Konstantin Dobrev, a computer specialist, and her mother, Michaela Dobreva, is an artist. She grew up along with her Alexander Dobrev.

At age 2, she was relocated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she was raised alongside her brother.

Growing up, she developed an interest in ballet, jazz, and rhythmic gymnastics and competed in these fields and was enrolled in dance, gymnastics, and theater classes at J. B. Tyrrell Sr. Public School after leaving Vradenburg Junior Public School.

She began developing an interest in acting, and After completing high school, Nina attended Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in Scarborough, Canada. Following graduation, she pursued a major in sociology at Ryerson University in Toronto. However, her passion for acting led her to leave her studies in 2008 and pursue an acting career.

Career

Nina Dobrev began her model career and landed her first major acting role in the television series “Degrassi: The Next Generation” in 2006.

Nina Dobrev rose to prominence following her breakout role in “Degrassi: The Next Generation,” and subsequently secured more prominent roles in television and film. 

Notably, in 2009, she assumed the roles of Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce in the supernatural drama series “The Vampire Diaries.” The show’s immense popularity propelled Nina to international stardom, and she garnered critical acclaim for her exceptional performance over its eight-season run, which concluded in 2017.

Alongside her role in “The Vampire Diaries,” Nina also appeared in several films. In 2014, she starred in “Let’s Be Cops” alongside Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson, which was a commercial success. She also starred in the action film “XXX: Return of Xander Cage” alongside Vin Diesel in 2017.

After leaving “The Vampire Diaries” in 2015, Nina starred in the comedy-horror film “The Final Girls” and the drama film “Arrivals” the same year. She then took on the lead role in the CBS sitcom “Fam” in 2018, which ran for one season. In 2019, Nina appeared in the drama film “Run This Town,” which also starred Ben Platt and Mena Massoud.

Personal Life

Nina Dobrev began her relationship in 2006 with Canadian actor Ben Hollingsworth which they dated briefly before splitting up.

In 2009, she began another romantic journey with another Canadian actor Evan Williams. The two were together for a year before calling it quits in 2010.

During the same year, Nina began dating her Vampire Diaries co-star, Ian Somerhalder, and dated for three years, from 2010 to 2013, before breaking up. Despite their split, they remained close friends and continued to work together on the show.

Following her breakup with Somerhalder, She briefly dated dancer Derek Hough in 2013. Their relationship lasted barely a year.

In 2014, rumors circulated that Nina was dating Australian actor Liam Hemsworth after they were spotted together in public several times.

The following year, Nina began dating American actor Austin Stowell

They were together from 2015 to 2016 before ending their relationship.

In 2017, She was spotted with an American actor Glen Powell, which they began dating in 2016 and ended in 2017.

Nina Dobrev is presently in a relationship with Shaun White, a professional snowboarder whom she met at an award show in 2012, but they officially began dating in 2020

Regarding her interests, Nina claims to be a tomboy and enjoys swimming. She always carries her bikini to take a dip whenever she wants.
