Jamie Adenuga (born on May 4, 1985) is a Nigerian-British grime MC, songwriter, record producer, and DJ known professionally by his stage name JME. He was born in Tottenham and raised in Hackney. JME is the brother of the rapper Skepta and a founding member of the Boy Better Know team and label. He established his own related business, Boy Better Know Ltd, in 2008. JME was part of the grime group Meridian Crew before joining Roll Deep. He played a significant role in grime’s success when the genre went mainstream in the 2010s. His 2015 album “Integrity” featuring Skepta on the first track, “That’s Not Me,” is credited with modernizing the genre’s distinctive sound.
Early Life
Jamie Adenuga, professionally known as JME, was born to Nigerian-British parents on May 4, 1985, in Tottenham, North London. He grew up in a council home in Tottenham with his sister Julie, older brother Joseph (Skepta), and younger brother Jason. JME attended St. Paul’s School in Winchmore Hill, Enfield, before attending Winchmore School.
As a child, JME developed a passion for gaming and music and started making beats using a Mario Paint video game. He also enjoyed playing the piano and the guitar and was mainly influenced by hip-hop and garage music. Personal Life
JME has a notable personal life, including being a vegan and teetotaler. He is the brother of Skepta, a fellow grime musician; his sister Julie Adenuga, a Beats 1 DJ and radio broadcaster; and his brother Jason Adenuga, a graphic designer and producer.
In August 2016, Jamie married his longtime partner Sarah Cavanagh.
He has had some legal issues, including a 2006 altercation at a Cyprus bar that resulted in spending the night in jail. He also admitted to common assault in 2009 after being involved in a brawl on a London street, for which he received 200 hours of community service. However, he has stated that he does not plan to get involved in any legal issues in the future.
