Priscilla Chan (born February 24, 1985) is an American-born Chinese popularly recognized for her Philanthropic roles and as an Ex Pediatrician.
Priscilla is the wife of a famous businessman and the CEO of Meta Platforms, Mark Zuckerberg.
She co-founded the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative with her Husband, a nonprofit organization focusing on education, health, and social justice. Priscilla is recommended as one of the most philanthropists in the world today due to her work in the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
Early Life
Priscilla Chan has her ethnicity as American but of Chinese descent. She was born and brought up in Braintree, Massachusetts, in 1985 and has her birthday celebrated every February 24.
Chan grew up with her Chinese parent, Dennis Chan and Yvonne Chan, and her other two younger siblings, Michelle Chan and Elaine Chan.
Her parent were immigrants from Vietnam who fled from the country for refuge through a refugee boat.
Immigrating to an entirely new environment was challenging for the family, but Dennis Chan managed to run a restaurant in Massachusetts. He uses the earnings to support his family and his children’s education.
He later sold his restaurant in 2006 to establish a wholesale Fish Company.
Priscilla was the eldest child of the family and grew up speaking Cantonese. She was considered a genius among her peers and her classmates. Chan was a brilliant girl and graduated valedictorian of her class from Quincy High School.
After completing high school, Priscilla enrolled at Harvard University in 2003. There she met Mark Zuckerberg, and the two began dating.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2007.
Before she entered medical school at the University of California in 2008, she was a teacher. She taught Science at the Private Harker School for a year before she graduated as a pediatrist in 2015.
Priscilla happens to be the first college graduate in her family.
Career
Priscilla is most known for her philanthropic activities and is also one of the innovative people working to change the world.
She co-founded The Primary School, a nonprofit that would offer K–12 instruction and prenatal care. She also served as the school’s board chair.
She also co-founded the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which she has grown to have a significant impact on advancing human potential and promoting equal opportunity.
Mark and Priscilla donated the sum of about US$4.6 Billion to Charities. And also to Priscilla Employer’s Hospital, Francisco General Hospital, for which they have also donated about US$75 million.
The couple was ranked number one on the top 50 American donors during the 2013 Chronicle of Philanthropy for their generosity after they donated about US$18 million in Facebook shares for charity.
They also pledge to donate US$150 million to the public schools in San Francisco Area.
Priscilla‘s charitable goals are focused on Education, Healthcare, and Science.
She handles the daily activities of the Chan Zuckerberg initiative. She oversees all of the operations.
Priscilla was listed among the six nominated for San Francisco’s third annual Visionary Award in march 2017.
She is also considered to influence her Husband’s philanthropic significantly.
Personal Life
Priscilla is married to Mark Zuckerberg, a businessman and the Meta Platform’s CEO.
The two met during their college days and eventually got married in 2012.
Chan has two kids with her Husband, Mark. Their first child, Max Zuckerberg, was born in 2015, and their second child, August Zuckerberg, was born in 2017.
